Where Families Learn to Speak and Listen

Concordia grew from a simple belief: when families have better tools for conversation, the conversations themselves become better.

Our Story

How Concordia Came to Be

Concordia was established in Hat Yai, Songkhla, by a small group of educators and community practitioners who had spent years working with households navigating difficult periods of change. What they noticed, again and again, was that the tools most families reached for during hard moments — raised voices, long silences, avoidance — were simply the only ones available to them.

The name Concordia comes from the Latin word for harmony. It was chosen not because harmony is easy or always possible, but because it is worth working towards with patience and care. The founders believed that practical, structured materials — planning templates, communication frameworks, facilitation methods — could give families something concrete to hold onto when conversations became difficult.

Operating from Hat Yai since its founding, Concordia has developed three core programmes: a family meeting planning package, a communication workshop series, and a facilitation skills training course. Each is designed to stand alone and to build skills that participants carry into their own lives, relationships and communities.

Concordia is not a legal or counselling organisation. The programmes are educational by design — they build knowledge and practical competence without offering individual case guidance or regulated professional advice. This distinction matters to us, and it shapes every aspect of how our materials and sessions are structured.

Our team includes educators, facilitators and curriculum developers with backgrounds in communication studies, adult learning and community dialogue. They bring a shared appreciation for calm, measured language and a healthy respect for how complex family life can be.

Mission

To make calm, structured family communication a practical skill — accessible to any household that wants it, regardless of the situation they are facing.

Vision

A southern Thailand where families have the language and the confidence to face shared challenges at a shared table, without outside escalation.

Values

Neutrality, patience, clarity and respect for each family's own pace. We hold these as the foundation of everything we design and deliver.

How We Work

Our Standards and Approach

Privacy by Design

Participant information shared in sessions is kept strictly internal. Our programmes are designed so that no individual details need to be disclosed to complete any exercise.

Education-Focused Delivery

All content is presented as general information and skill-building. We do not frame our output as advice, recommendations or professional guidance on any specific matter.

Strictly Neutral Content

Workshop materials are reviewed to ensure they present all communication positions without favouring any particular family structure, outcome or point of view.

Participant-Paced Learning

Materials are structured so participants can move at their own pace. Sessions are not time-pressured, and planning resources can be revisited as often as needed.

Reviewed Curriculum

All workshop content and training materials go through an internal review process before delivery. The team updates the curriculum annually based on participant feedback.

Respectful Engagement

Facilitators are trained to maintain a respectful, non-judgmental tone throughout all sessions. The environment is kept calm and structured from start to finish.

Family Communication Education in Southern Thailand

Concordia is one of the few organisations in the Songkhla region dedicated specifically to family communication education. Where most resources in this area focus on individual or couples-based approaches, Concordia's programmes are built around the family unit as a whole — the way decisions get made, the way roles get assigned, the way difficult topics get raised or avoided.

The Family Meeting Planning package draws on structured dialogue frameworks used in community settings, adapted for household use. Participants receive agenda templates, role suggestion guides and a set of ground-rule frameworks that make recurring family meetings easier to run without outside facilitation. These materials are practical enough to use on the same evening they are received.

The Family Communication Workshop takes participants through listening and turn-taking techniques in a facilitated group setting. The workshop is educational — it teaches methods, not outcomes. Participants leave with a set of tools and a clearer understanding of how conversation dynamics affect what gets heard and what gets missed.

The Facilitation Skills Training course goes a step further, equipping participants to facilitate structured conversations themselves, either within their own household or in community settings. This is particularly suited to individuals who want to support others — extended family members, community groups, neighbourhood organisations — with the same structured methods Concordia uses in its own sessions.

All three programmes are delivered from Hat Yai with the southern Thai cultural context in mind. The facilitators understand the local landscape of family responsibilities, intergenerational dynamics and the particular pressures that households in this region may face. This background informs the tone, the examples used and the pace at which sessions move.
